The offical thread for The Dark Knight.
Matt and I are going to see it tomorrow opening night, will post a review on The Crypt afterwards. I'm really, really looking forward to it.
Some locations have had their tickets sold out 3 weeks ahead of the opening night, and have had to have 3 A.M. showings along with the traditional midnight shows to satisfy viewers.
Among those getting an early sneak peak include Rolling Stone editors and Kevin Smith of Jay and Silent Bob fame. All have given it rave, rave, reviews, and I'm totally psyched.

Okay, The Dark Knight was an amazing film. Great, great fun for everyone. If you haven't seen it, then see it. And if you are near an IMAX don't skimp it either, I'm looking at you Brit th' mighty! Heath Ledger is not in this movie, The Joker is in this movie. And his portrayal of which is absolutely stunning. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it. I'm sure this will be as big an effect on the comics as The Killing Joke was. Christopher Bale tries really too hard with his Batman voice. In Begins it was tolerable, even acceptable, but here...bleh. He has the gravely voice of a Death Metal singer, reminding one of the soothing tones of Nathan Explosion. A Michael Keaton overdub would be much appreciated if unlikely. I thought that the ferry scene was awesome. And the part where Joker's detonator doesn't work on the first try was hilarious. Although the highlight was the Pencil Magic trick.
Also Bearden, after I've let it roll around my head for a while, I can't decide if the Joker had a knife or a piece of glass held to the cop when he wanted to make his phone call.
He was thrown up against the glass twice by Batman when he went nuts, and I'm sure the cop did it too, making it shatter and giving the Joker an easy way out. Not quite as good as having a Batarang, but better than a knife. However, the real downside of this movie is length. I hate to take away points for being ambitious, but it's two hours and thirty minutes long. I was having trouble setting still for that amount of time, no matter how enthralled I was. We could have killed a chase scene or had Dent die earlier, and save patrons from the theatre wiggle. Final Verdict: 9 out of 10 Batarangs.

Truly an exhausting film.
A post-modern take on the Joker and a nice, new status quo at the end for Batman.
I have one gripe: hostages. As in, lots of them taken in this movie. If there is another sequel, no more hostage situations!

Really? My only gripe was the fact that Jim Gordon's WIFE was named Barbara, not his daughter.
That and I wish the heavyset cop was named Harvey Bullock. 'Cause it would have just been cool to have Bullock in the film. Instead we got Gerard Stephens... what kind of name is Gerard for a Gotham City cop?
And not a Michael Keaton overdub.... if anyone dubs Batman, it's Kevin Conroy. This is a rule. Or if it isn't, it damn well should be. But to be honest, Christian Bale doesn't annoy me in the slightest. Maybe, it's because he's Welsh and I must support my homeland.
Anyway, one of the best movies I've seen. My only qualms are small and based too far into my desire to have the films identical to the comics. The acting is perfect, especially from Heath Ledger, but Aaron Eckhart is stunning as well, and Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman are both excellent. We had some stunning action sequences: Batman vs. Cops near the end is a lot of fun; some great oneliners; some amazing plot twists; and some stellar character development.
Ten out of ten.
Oh, btw, The Dark Knight is currently on the oscar docket for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Heath Ledger), and Best Adapted Screenplay. I'm doubting the Best Picture will stick, but the other two are possibilities. I reckon it'll probably get a sound-editing or make-up Oscar nomination before the day as well.
