[This is just an "in-the-air" kind of idea i had for a book or movie. Please let me know what you think.]
It is the election 2012; the new president, Kevin Wittering, has just been sworn. Times are decent and the economy has just struggled to avoid a serious Depression. Foreign relations are down and another war seems inavoidable. The only options are Strong Diplomacy, or War. But one day his Vice President, Robert Connley suggest a new idea that would be a test of office and the world.....what if he could unite North and South America and close off the entire Western Hempisphere as Japan did in the 1100's...? North America would supply medical aid and technology while South America would provide Agriculture and some Industry. Would it work? How would he explain it to Congress? And the biggest question of all....what would happen next if it suceeded?
If you have an suggestions or comments please let me know.

I can't see it happening in the real world anytime soon, but this seems like a fun scenario. I think the story would be most interesting from the point of view of someone living "there" and not "here". The question is how far will our nation go? Will we try and enforce our brand of law and order? (PS, we've already tried and are trying to this day)
To put it simply: too many other foreign powers have interests in South America. However, this could be the source of conflict in your book or movie.
Besides, if you believe the whole "Federal Reserve Trying To Rule The World" scenario, this is already happening.
Goodbye dollar, hello Amero?

I'm liking it, it would be a very nice RP too. We can roll it around and see where it goes, and who knows maybe you can come up with more ideas.

Goodbye dollar, hello Amero? I very much like where you speak of the source of conflict and i can uderstand due to the fact that so many foreigners already have businesses adn land over here, but it was just an up in the air thing. As for the perception....i like that too, but as previously stated, i was springboarding ideas cause no one has ever really written such a novel and i think it could be piloted by a good author and turned into something neat. [change of topic] now correct me if i'm wrong but the only currenct that is below the Dollar is the Peso, yes or is there more? Pork and Beans - Weezer

There are dozens more friend. In fact, I think the only two currencies ABOVE the US Dollar are the Euro and the British Pound, but I'm probably wrong there. The US Dollar is definitely in one of the higher tiers of currency.

Not like Japan,
I mean hell, you buy a candy bar too many and their economy goes into a crisis.
'We can't keep up with supply and demand, cherry blossom san, what should we do?'
'Print more of those ten billion Yen bills! That will fix everything!'

'Print more of those ten billion Yen bills! That will fix everything!' I say this all in fun but......That would be a nicer way to even out the playing fields of the world.....not by global distruction but by Economic Collapse. What say we hire us some goons and start making Yen out the Wazoo, that way it will become the new Yen/Peso of hte world....muwahahaha.
