I was sitting in my chair reading the comic. I wanted to high five Libra. Now we have room in the league for the new Atom.

Wow... Was I the only one who actually liked J'onn?
And Chris I just read R.I.P. ... I'm betting on the Black Glove too.

J'onn has been a black hole of a character for years in the DCU. It seems they got rid of him merely because they had no idea what to do with him.
Are you sure you want to bet on the Black Glove, Brit? Are you sure the Black Glove isn't...
...Bruce Wayne!?

Here's a fun fact: Alfred was originally a fat bumbling oaf in the 40's era Batman comics, originally named Alfred Beagle. The Mayor identifies the "actor" that has portrayed Alfred all these years as Beagle. And the graffiti that causes Batman to go into epilepsy is the name of a planet he visited in an old 50's story. Of course, with Morrison at the helm, this story could be going anywhere. What was this thread about again? ...oh yeah...some green alien dude...got shanked or something... Let's just re-title this thread, "Where Were You When You Found Out Batman's Mom Was A Junkie?"

It really would be a crazy twist if Alfred turned out to be Bruce's dad and Thomas Wayne was a crazy SOB who might still be alive... and I'm not ruling anything out 'cause Morrison will do something like that to poor Bats.
Don't forget that the R.I.P. tie-in in Detective Comics is gonna be about the return of Hush too. I'm sure Tommy Elliott will have a few glimpses into the truth for us...

Q: Joe Chill murdered Bruce Wayne's parents, but who stole Bruce Wayne's life?
A: Batman
This is my favorite theory. Bruce Wayne is trying to save himself. The blurb at the end of R.I.P. Part 2 said "The Return Of The First Batman"...I wonder if they're referring to Thomas Wayne (who once masqueraded as a Bat-Man during a costume party) or Chief Man-Of-Bats?
On another forum someone also noticed something else: The homeless man in R.I.P. Part 1 said Batman had "such kind eyes". Apparently this is some sort of reference to the Boatman on the river Styx. In the next panel, he alludes to giving the bum money. Nice little touch by Morrison.
"Good versus Evil. Place your bets with the Black Glove."
Back in the Club Of Batmen story-arc earlier in Morrison's run, this is heard being spoken to unknown "contestants" that are watching the story unfold. In RIP Alfred mentions the Black Glove was a film about two lovers murdered by gamblers.
-catches breath-
Also, I read on that same message board that Dr. Hurt was the psychiatrist who observed Batman during his isolation experiment in the old "Robin Dies At Dawn" story from the 50's.
I think Hush's involvement will result in the dispelling of the Thomas Wayne-was-a-psycho theory.

Hmmm.... interesting. I haven't actually read anything from Morrison's arcs except the R.I.P. issues (there are still only two so far right?) and Batman & Son, so I can't make a lot of the conclusions you did, but everything you say makes a lot of sense.
We've seen Morrison take an interest in Batman's apparent mental instability before... (Remember Arkham Asylum: Serious House on Serious Earth?) so I do reckon he'll be building on some of Batman's insanity issues in the arc. Don't forget that the Joker's involved front and center with his little Dead Man's Hand trick and Tim Drake mentioned Damien Wayne again... making me think he's involved or will at least make an appearance in the plot.
Editors at DC also hint that R.I.P. may mean something other than Rest In Peace...
We'll have to see. This event spreads over so many books it's impossible to tell where its going. For example, where does this story tie into Robin, Nightwing or the Outsiders?

Thumbed through my back issues this morning. The Morrison run is as follows
"Batman & Son" (655-658) -Batman fights Talia and Ninja Man-Bats, then has a bad parenting experience with Damien, a kid who may or may not be his son.
"The Clown At Midnight" (659) -A police officer shoots the Joker in the face and the resulting plastic surgery leaves him more demented than before. He tries to kill Harley Quinn. These events have since been revealed as one of Dr. Hurt's experiments.
4-issue gap with a terrible fill-in story from the usually great John Ostrander
"Three Ghosts Of Batman & The Black Casebook" (664-665) -Batman develops a romance with Jezebel Jet and investigates a trio of Batman impersonators. The First is a 'Bat-Bane' type character and the second was a crazed cop who began dressing as Batman. The third charlatan gets away.
"Batman In Bethlehem" (666) -15 years in the future, Damian Wayne has inherited the Bat-mantle and stops a Batman Impersonator who plans to summon the devil by killing mobsters all over Gotham in the shape of a pentagram. Barbara Gordon is the commissioner but refuses to help Damian because his methods are very un-Batman-like.
"The Island Of Mr. Mayhew" (667-669) -Batman & Robin reunite with the Club Of Heroes, a group he ran with in the old 50's comics. Most of them have let themselves go and aren't very efficient crime fighters...to say the least. The Black Glove makes it's first appearance and the Luchador guy (who we have seen in RIP) is the mastermind behind the gathering of heroes. The usual murder mystery and paranoia ensues and Batman (along with England's Knight) crack the case.
2-issue gap for the Ra's Ah Ghul crossover with the other Bat-books
"The Third Man & Joe Chill In Hell" (672-674) -The third Batman poser challenges Batman to a public battle, taking the police hostage. He captures the real Batman and tortures (tests) him. Batman escapes, but so does the imposter. The three Batmen were actually part of a bizarre experiment by the GCPD to create a government-sanctioned Batman.
"The Fiend With Nine Eyes" (675) -An assassin (who is totally too cool for me to describe here) interrupts Bruce and Jezebel's date. Long story short: she learns his identity.
"Batman RIP" (676-Now)

Part Three of RIP has been out for a while now, waiting to hear what Seb thinks about it.
Zur En Arrh = Sur Ren Der (Maybe?) The beginning of this issue leads me to believe that the isloation experiment was some attempt by Bruce to understand the insane criminal mind of the Joker.
Dickie Grayson in Arkham (!), foaming at the mouth (!!) That's what he gets for all that back-talk.
Dr. Hurt wearing Thomas Wayne's original "Bat-Man" costume. Big WTF on this one.
Meanwhile, heroin addict Bruce Wayne gets help from the spirit of a magic bum...then proceeds to make a new Bat-suit out of garbage. Hoo-Rah!
(Good thing he has the Bat-Radia!) This was the hand held deus ex machina that the Batman Of Imaginary Planet Zur En Arrh used in another crazy old 50's story. In reality, it appears to be a tape player. When the play button was pressed, the magic bum disappeared. A subtle device to counter the hypnotic command of The Black Glove? Perhaps...
And Damian Wayne is back next issue! Neat!

It seems that as usual Grant Morrisson is pulling crazy shit on us.
Now, to see if it will all come together in the end.
